A thorough crop rotation protocol should therefore be an integral part of greenhouse hygiene standards. By combining intensive cleaning with effective disinfection, growers can significantly reduce the risk of contamination between cultivation cycles and create the right conditions for a healthy start of the next crop.

With our current product portfolio, we offer a complete hygiene approach for crop rotation, covering both cleaning and disinfection of greenhouse surfaces, water systems and empty greenhouse spaces.

A successful crop rotation starts with two essential steps

Crop rotation can be a demanding period, but it is a crucial moment to reset the hygiene status of the greenhouse. A well-structured protocol helps limit pathogen pressure, reduce the risk of recurring infections and protect crop performance in the next cultivation cycle.

An effective crop rotation protocol consists of two key steps: cleaning and disinfection.

Clean disinfect perform

Step 1: Thorough cleaning as the foundation for effective disinfection

Before disinfection can be effective, the greenhouse must first be cleaned thoroughly. Plant debris, organic matter and dirt create ideal hiding places for microorganisms and can reduce the efficacy of disinfectants if not removed properly.

Using a detergent during this phase is therefore essential. Roam Eco Clean is specifically developed to support this first step. Its active foam formula helps loosen and remove dirt, organic residues and contamination from surfaces such as silos, drains, materials, concrete floors and empty greenhouses. By reducing the organic load and removing more than 90% of microorganisms, Roam Eco Clean prepares the greenhouse for the disinfection step that follows.

Roam Descalix

Coming soon: extra support against mineral deposits

In addition to organic contamination, growers also have to deal with mineral scale and deposits in the greenhouse environment. To support this challenge, we will soon expand our crop rotation hygiene portfolio with Roam Descalix — a new cleaning solution developed specifically for the removal of mineral contamination.

Roam Descalix will become available in the coming months, just in time for the crop rotation period.

Huwa-san USP

Step 2: Disinfection for broad and reliable pathogen control

Once cleaning has been completed, the next step is disinfection. This phase requires the use of a registered biocidal product with proven efficacy against a broad spectrum of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Reliable water disinfection with Huwa-San TR-50

For water hygiene during crop rotation, Huwa-San TR-50 is a strong and reliable solution. Thanks to its unique stabilisation technology, Huwa-San remains active throughout the entire water system, allowing it to disinfect irrigation water as well as water present in silos and drains.

Its oxidising action has a strong impact on pathogens and enables a reduction of more than 99.99% of microorganisms. After application, Huwa-San breaks down into water and oxygen, leaving no harmful residues behind. In addition, the concentration of the product can be measured and controlled in the irrigation system, helping growers maintain an effective dosage throughout the disinfection process.

Virba-San USP

Powerful surface disinfection with Virba-San

For surface disinfection during crop rotation, Virba-San offers a powerful complementary solution. It is designed for the disinfection of greenhouse surfaces and is effective against bacteria, viruses, yeasts and fungi, in line with stringent EN standards.

Virba-San combines strong oxidising performance with a stable formulation based on biodegradable potassium monopersulfate, acids and surfactants. This results in a sustainable disinfectant solution that supports a high level of hygiene without compromising on biosecurity performance.

Use the right dosage and contact time

To achieve the intended disinfection result, it is essential to apply both Huwa-San TR-50 and Virba-San at the correct dosage and with the appropriate contact time. These parameters are defined according to standardised efficacy tests and are key to ensuring optimal performance during crop rotation.

By integrating thorough cleaning and targeted disinfection into the crop rotation process, growers can significantly improve greenhouse hygiene and start the new cultivation cycle with a lower pathogen pressure and a stronger biosecurity foundation.
