A structural solution for growers

Over the past year, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) conducted intensive inspections on the correct use of biocides within agricultural businesses. The preliminary findings caused considerable concern in the greenhouse horticulture sector and highlighted the growing importance of water hygiene and clear regulations.

Meanwhile, Roam Technology has been working intensively behind the scenes to develop a structural and compliant solution for the use of hydrogen peroxide in irrigation systems, including during the cultivation phase. Thanks to this newly developed approach, growers can now rely on consistent and reliable water hygiene, both during crop changes and throughout the entire cultivation cycle.

A compliant approach to biofilm and water hygiene in irrigation systems with Huwa-San

Huwa-San TR-50 Plus is a new stabilised hydrogen peroxide, based on the well-known Huwa-San technology. The product was specifically developed for continuous dosing in irrigation systems within protected cultivation, with the aim of effectively controlling biofilm and bacteria. By actively combating biofilm formation, the product helps prevent clogging in irrigation systems and ensures optimal water hygiene throughout the entire cultivation period. It can be applied throughout the entire irrigation system, including pipes, sprinklers, drippers, silos, tanks, and auxiliary equipment.

After a thorough evaluation process, Huwa-San TR-50 Plus received a positive assessment from the Dutch Board for the Authorisation of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb) during its latest meeting on 27 May 2026. Under authorisation number 16500 N, both curative shock treatment and preventive continuous treatment against biofilm have been approved.

The approval of Huwa-San TR-50 Plus is a milestone that we fully stand behind. The Ctgb has handled the dossier for Huwa-San TR-50 Plus with great integrity and on a scientific basis, which gives us confidence as a science-driven company. The final approval is an important signal to growers: with this product, the water system can be kept clean during cultivation, and correct use of TR-50 Plus can be considered safe in use. Our experts are ready to guide growers in this.

For a curative shock treatment of biofilm, a dosage of 50 ppm hydrogen peroxide is applied, which corresponds to 1 ml of product per 10 liters of water. Fill the system with this solution for at least 24 hours to thoroughly break down and loosen existing biofilm.

In addition, the product can also be dosed preventively on a continuous basis. In this case, a dosage of 40 ppm hydrogen peroxide is applied against bacteria and 50 ppm against biofilm. By continuously circulating the solution through the system, new biofilm formation is limited and the risk of clogging in the irrigation system remains minimal.

With Huwa-San TR-50 Plus, growers finally have a compliant and forward-looking solution to structurally control biofilm formation while optimally maintaining water quality in their irrigation systems.
